How hard did you find the paleo diet?
The first few days are difficult, but its worth it to stick it out. You’ll discover a significant difference in you energy levels and, for me, my skin cleared up. There’s so many great recipes available, you won’t run out of tasty options.

Main gains since doing Crossfit:

Overall fitness, increased endurance, muscle gain & weight loss.
What results have you achieved?

Through Crossfit I learned to push myself out of my comfort zone and do not take NO as an answer.

What fitness and strength gains have you had?

I can remember my first Crossfit session, when I could hardly push press 15 kg bar and now 45 kg is not a limit. Thoughout the year I have been working hard on the strength and technique of all the fundamental movements. This has resulted in a number of PB’s and most importantly I can do Rx workouts rather than a scaled version. Woo hoo ☺

What sporting achievements?

Earlier in November I finished Athens Authentic Marathon in 4hrs and 36 mins.

What

benefits have you experienced through CrossFit at the CrossFit Stags and Does?

I have started to really enjoy fitness and being active! Anything from working out in the gym, going for random runs or bike rides and outdoor trips with my mates from Crossfit Stags and Does.

How did you find out about CrossFit?

I was passing the Stags and Does Box and saw some guys and girls doing a tough workout with weights and running. I became intrigued and wanted to try it myself, so popped in to the Saturday class a few days later. The best decision I ever made!

What’s your favourite workout?

I really enjoy team workouts. They are so much more fun!

What’s your most memorable experience?

It must be the moment when I crossed the finish line after running consistently for 26.4 miles. I felt so excited and proud that all the training, hard work and determination resulted in reaching another goal.

What sets CrossFit Stags and Does apart?

It is very unique, quirky and undoubtedly a very social gym. The coaches have high standards and they encourage you during the workouts and at the same time make sure we have a good time.

Any injuries or weakness’s you have had and how have you over come them?

None so far and I hope to keep it that way.

How do you find the Crossfit community at the box?

It is awesome. Everyone knows each other and gets on really well. There are always social activities happening in and outside the gym, which makes Cambridge Stags and Does stand out from other gyms.

I have gone from a 36 to a 33 waist, and lost 26 kilos, from my heaviest at 105kg

What fitness and strength gains have you had?

My squat technique has dramatically improved and my injured knee is much more supportive.  My general fitness has increased as well as I can now run a 20 minute 5k

What benefits have you experienced through CrossFit at the CrossFit stags and does?

I have lost a lot of weight, which was important to protect a pre existing knee injury, and I feel a lot better

How did you find out about CrossFit?

Through a friend at rugby who was very keen on it

What’s your favourite workout?

Angie.

Which is 100 pull ups, 100 press ups, 100 sit ups & 100 Air squats for time

What’s your most memorable experience?

Competing in the CrossFit open! The WODs were a massive step up

What sets CrossFit stags and does apart?

Any injuries or weakness’s you have had and how have you over come them?

Weightloss:

Tonning & definition.

What results have you achieved?

Lost more fat around my waistline that I ever have before and have for the first time started to develop a proper shape with good proportions.

What fitness and strength gains have you had?

Pull-ups – I could only do 5 or 6 strict when I first arrived and now can do 12-15 easily.

What benefits have you experienced through CrossFit at the CrossFit stags and does?

All round fitness – flexibility, strength and endurance, and more importantly I’ve been rejuvenated – I feel I can push on and achieve more and have regained a love for fitness.

How did you find out about CrossFit?

Fortunately, a bit of luck. Just searched for a CrossFit gym in my area and this one was nicely situated between work and home.

What’s your favourite workout?

I’ve found a love for box jumps and pull-ups personally and like any workout with those in it. I’ve been a kettlebell fan for a few years now too so always like seeing them in a WOD.

What’s your most memorable experience?

Going a few weeks without doing any squats, just by coincidence but doing a lot of box jumps during that time. Then the next time doing squats I was up 15-20% on my 1RM. It was great to see other exercises helping build up the squat and got me over the 100kg squat mark too.

What sets CrossFit stags and does apart?

It’s not too big and not too small – everyone there is so easy to get along with and have become friends as opposed to just gym-mates. The owners are in there every day and always enthusiastic and happy to be there. I’ve never had a low day in there.

Any injuries or weakness’s you have had and how have you over come them?

Personally I’ve been lucky here. Any time there’s something minor I just take it easy for a week and let it heal naturally.

Achievements

Achieved a sub 4 hour marathon

Full kipping Pull ups

What results have you achieved?

My main goal was to run a sub 4 hour marathon. So the workouts with a mixture of strength and cardiovascular exercises were to support my long distance running. Thankfully I have now achieved this, completing the Nice to Cannes marathon this November in 3 hours 53 minutes and 54 seconds. On the side of this I have also improved on my 5km and 10km times. I ran a 21 minute 43 second 5km recently, a time I never thought possible! Can you remember any fitness and strength things you found really hard and now find easy? I would say I was starting from a fair level of cardiovascular fitness with a bit of strength in my legs. Anything that involves upper body strength is hard for me, but this has definitely improved. Only last week I did my first ever kipping pull up! I found coordinating the correct technique for the weight lifting movements hard to start with, but with constant tips and support from Duncan and Dino, I now feel confident with all of the movements.

What benefits have you experienced through CrossFit at the CrossFit stags and does?

Aside from the fitness side of things, it’s a really sociable gym so I have met a great group of people. I find group workouts are much more effective than training by myself, having that little bit of competition, either with yourself or others, I think can bring out every bit of energy you have. I’ve also found everyone at the gym to be really encouraging no matter what level you’re at, so it’s a brilliant atmosphere for improving your fitness.

How did you find out about CrossFit?

I hadn’t heard of crossfit until this gym opened, and Duncan introduced me to the world of Crossfit.

What’s your favourite workout?

Anything with squats, and no burpees!

What’s your most memorable experience?

Has to be doing a sub 4 hour marathon, and then being able to go back to the gym and show off my medal to everyone who had supported me. Crossfit played a big part in keeping me functionally strong for running and gave variety to my training

What sets CrossFit stags and does apart?

Duncan and Dino!!!

Any injuries or weakness’s you have had and how have you over come them?

I’ve had problems with my IT bands from long distance running and not having enough strength around my hips to control where my legs go when I get tired. Dino gave me a lot of tips to control my knee movement, and then being taught the correct technique for the weight lifting movements, I have stayed injury free.

What results have you achieved?

I have gained about 5kg since April, and I have become less weedy, also my strength has improved.

Can you rember any fitness and strength things you found really hard and now find easy?

I have always found my flexibility a limiting factor, I would not say that I find things related to this easy by any means but it is ever improving.

What benefits have you experienced through CrossFit at the CrossFit stags and does?

Excellent coaching very time I go to the gym, a great atmosphere where everyone wants each other to improve, succeed and most of all enjoy themselves.

How did you find out about CrossFit?

I read about it on a magazine and then googled Crossfit gyms in Cambridge, when I saw the name stags and does it was a no brainer as to whether I would go to this gym or venture to the other Crossfit gym.

What’s your favourite workout?

I don’t think I have a particular favourite workout, I love all of them, I would say I am more suited to the endurance type workouts.

What’s your most memorable experience?

The recent battle of London comp, when everyone got behind me in the final workout it was awesome, I could not have done it without the support.

What sets CrossFit stags and does apart?

The two awesome trainers and the really friendly atmosphere.

Any injuries or weakness’s you have had and how have you over come them?

My flexibility and strength are improving but I have by no means overcome my flexibility issues and you can always be stronger.
